Hi all!
Welcome to issue #2 of the AI Agentplex! The world’s dedicated newsletter for AI Agents covering key developments in AI research, industry and start ups as well as updates on the AI Agents Global Challenge (www.aiagentschallenge.com)
This issue we will cover:
Updates on the AI Agents Global Challenge
Industry headlines
Our thoughts on the AI Agents opportunity
Our summer internship program
AI Agents Global Challenge updates
We officially launched the US$ 1million Challenge on 11 March and have already received 180+ sign ups to the competition. Remember, you can keep refining your applications up to the submission deadline of 1 September so we encourage you to apply early and get access to our team throughout the application window.
Over the coming weeks we will be hosting a series of events including webinars, hackathons and other events to build up the community. We will also be providing compute credits to promising applicants and will be reaching out to applicants in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, please get in touch via our Discord to join our community or email us for a 1:1 discussion
Industry headlines and talks
Google showcases AI Agents at Google Cloud event: Wes Roth summarized Google’s presentations on YouTube showcasing different AI Agent use cases across industries as well as its Vertex AI Agent Builder using natural language or a code-first approach using Gemini Pro 1.5, now open to the public
Betaworks announces Agents Cohort for its next AI Camp: Tech platform Betaworks has picked nine teams (out of 250+ applicants) based on their belief (and ours!) that agents are a critical part of the AI ecosystem and will become the catch-all term for natively AI software
Research Paper - LM2 A Simple Society of Language Models Solves Complex Reasoning: Researches propose a solution for LLMs which lose track of complex, multi-step reasoning by modularizing the decomposition, solution, and verification into three different language models
Research Paper - Designs Towards a Runtime for Autonomous LLM Applications: Study how humans can efficiently collaborate with, delegate to, and supervise autonomous LLMs, this paper argues that in many cases, "post-facto validation" - verifying the correctness of a proposed action after seeing the output - is much easier than "pre-facto validation". The core concept involves the integration of an intuitive undo feature and establishing a damage confinement for the LLM-generated actions
YC’s W2024 batch shows prominence of “Practical AI” applications: We liked TechCrunch’s round up of YC’s latest demo day. As builders move from conversational chatbots to action based products, the AI Agent ecosystem will continue to grow
Friends of the Ecosystem
As we grow the ecosystem for AI Agents, we will regularly introduce tools and participants focusing on AI Agents, including toolkits for building and running AI Agents. We will introduce an exciting new platform in the coming days alongside our first hackathon announcement. In the meantime, as requested by some of you, we wanted to share our views on the AI Agent space.
Our thoughts on AI Agents - and the opportunity
When looking at the broader AI ecosystem, we note hardware, data, LLMs are dominated (and will continue to be) by large organizations (Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Nvidia, etc.).
Initial applications by startups have centered around chatbots and copilots - and whilst these help with productivity, autonomous agents will open up completely new domain.
An analogy we like to think of is the advent of smartphones. Initially, these enabled productivity gains over the older Nokia and Motorola handsets in use (contacts, emails, music, etc.)
But then “app” developers introduced entirely new domains - some of which have become verbs (Uber, Airbnb, Venmo, etc.)
We believe AI Agents will do the same and become the catch all for how AI is utilized by enterprises and consumers. Reliable AI Agents will also be instrumental in the promise of of productivity gains that the current AI revolution is promising.
Our summer internship program
MM01 AI is pleased to announce its Summer Internship Program open to undergraduate and graduate students with a preference for students in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
We are offering internships (online, remote) in different areas including research, content writing, community management and development.
Applicants should submit a resume that details their relevant work and educational experiences and cover letter stating their interests, qualifications and areas of interest in developing the AI Agents ecosystem to apply@mm01.ai.
The application deadline is end of day 15 May 2024.
